{"id":5841,"date":"2020-02-07T15:23:28","date_gmt":"2020-02-07T13:23:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.stedtnitz.ch\/?p=5841"},"modified":"2020-06-15T09:14:55","modified_gmt":"2020-06-15T07:14:55","slug":"lets-stop-eating-our-stress","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stedtnitz.ch\/en\/lets-stop-eating-our-stress\/","title":{"rendered":"Let&#8217;s Stop Eating Our Stress | stedtnitz. design your life"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Are your New Year\u2019s intentions set and do you already find yourself struggling with one of your most persistent obstacles?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Yes, I\u2019m referring to your <strong>stressful, daily spinning wheel<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>When the symptoms of stress and anxiety become present in our daily lives, it is widespread (and indeed, human) to get discouraged from our initial good intentions and return quickly to old patterns.<\/p>\n<p>Food is often a way to deal with unpleasant feelings and can provide some temporary relief from stress.<\/p>\n<p>In other words,\u00a0<strong>we try to eat our stress.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>HOW FOOD CAN PERPETUATE\u00a0 SYMPTOMS OF STRESS <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Regardless of the root cause of stress<\/strong>, <strong>sustaining certain eating habits over time is, in itself, a source of strain for the body. <\/strong>This might make stress or anxiety worse over time.<\/p>\n<p><strong>It works like a vicious circle:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>We have stress for &#8220;X&#8221; reasons<\/li>\n<li>This leads us to put our<strong> eating habits on autopilot<\/strong>, guided by the symptoms of stress and the <em>urgent<\/em> <em>need<\/em> to soothe them.<\/li>\n<li>As a result, <strong>our food choices are often <\/strong><strong><em>not the best ones<\/em><\/strong> to bring our bodies back into balance, but rather the opposite: They perpetuate a cycle of <strong><em>&#8220;stress<\/em><\/strong>\/<strong><em>false relief<\/em><\/strong>\/<strong><em>stress<\/em><\/strong>\/<strong><em>false relief<\/em><\/strong><em>&#8220;<\/em> that may end up affecting both our physical and mental wellbeing, let alone the feeling of frustration that emerges right afterwards.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>SEARCHING FOR THE ROOT CAUSE OF STRESS IS LIKE ROWING UPSTREAM<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As a practitioner of the <a href=\"https:\/\/drhyman.com\/about-functional-medicine\/\">principles of Functional Medicine<\/a>, I firmly believe that searching for the <strong>root cause<\/strong> of stress is the first step to managing it successfully.<\/p>\n<p>A no-brainer, I know. What is astonishing is how seldom we embark on such a journey to search for the very roots of our discomfort. And when we do it, we see ourselves seated in a small boat, rowing-upstream with all our might, and the initial unwavering determination to find our whys.
