We can take a free high-quality class from a platform like Coursera, delve into a professional-level online course in Australia, invest in a learning-by-doing experience in Africa, or work towards a nationally recognized certificate at a college or university.

The Swiss spend over 5 billion Swiss Francs annually on professional development or further education. According to professional estimates, Switzerland has almost 2000-4000 programs dedicated to continued education.

A learning experience can take up many evenings and weekends and may cost a lot of money. So it’s important to choose carefully.

When my clients are in the process of choosing a program, I always suggest that they take some time to carefully reflect on their unique needs, and I encourage you to do the same.

Here are some questions that you can use as a guideline:

• Is genuine interest in this topic my core motivator?
• Do I even need an “official” certificate?
• Do I want to expand my professional network?
• Do I want to have an eye-opening experience abroad?

And most importantly, always listen to your intuition.
